Java/Web UI Software Engineer

San Francisco, CA

Grassroots Enterprise has an immediate opening in our San Francisco office for a software engineer experienced in developing web-based user interfaces in a Java application server environment. This position is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a major product initiative using the latest tools and techniques for enterprise level web application development.

The qualifications for the position are:

• Experience developing Java Web applications in a professional software development environment. We need someone who understands best practices for software design, configuration management, and testing. We want someone with solid experience but it doesn't necessarily need to be lots of years. Three or four years doing good work in the right environment is sufficient. On the other hand, if you have many years of experience we can make use of that and give you a level of responsibility commensurate with your background.
• Experience developing user interfaces for commercial products in a cross-functional setting. If you've done this kind of development you know that user interfaces aren't like other software components. Everyone's got an opinion about them. In this role you will be working with information architects, product managers, quality assurance engineers, and end users. We're looking to you to be able to accommodate input from these various sources and deliver a successful product.
• Practical knowledge of the latest Web UI technologies. This is a rapidly changing field with lots of alphabet soup-AJAX, CSS, DHTML, XHTML, JSON, XML, XSL, etc., etc. We will be looking to you to play a key role in choosing the right frameworks and approaches and then successfully using them to deliver the best possible UI experience for our users.
• Ability to work effectively in a small team environment. We need someone who can come up to speed and work independently as well as be able to collaborate effectively with others. As a member of a small development team you will be involved in many different aspects of the development effort, requiring good general technical skills, flexibility, and commitment to doing what's necessary to accomplish the tasks at hand.
• Excellent work ethic. We're looking for a prolific individual contributor who takes pride in his or her work and can effectively balance the inevitable schedule pressure of the Internet world with the necessity of delivering a quality product.

This is a full-time, salaried position offering excellent compensation based on experience, full benefits, 401K, and stock options.
