Podcasts are a new way to deliver audio on the Internet. In the past, people had to go to individual web pages and be tied to their computer to listen to audio programs. Podcasts are much easier to get. They can be listened to at any time because a copy of the audio is tranfered to the listener's computer or iPod player (hence the "pod" in "podcasting"). Since they are automatically delivered to listeners via a subcription, there's no need to keep going back to the web page looking for new content.

We were among the first to do a political podcast when we produced a series of "FireWire Chats" for Donnie Fowler, a candidate for Democratic National Committee Chair (See "Podcasting for the Democrats Future," Washington Post, January 16, 2005). These podcasts helped Fowler gain significant online traction and mainstream media coverage, and helped give him credibility as a forward-thinking leader.

And we were also the producers of one of the most landmark podcasts ever - one by Senator John Edwards and his wife Elizabeth (See "Edwards Tosses His Hat into...Podcasting," Washington Post, March 25, 2005). This podcast not only prompted enormous "buzz" online, it helped to establish political podcasting as more than just a novelty, but an idea whose time had come.

At Grassroots Enterprise, we understand that producing a podcast involves more than just speaking into a microphone. In order to resonate, a podcast must be crafted to speak to the target audience. It must be well produced, but not over produced.  And most importantly - it must be interesting.
